On 22 June, Mater welcomed Andrew Thomas to the role of Mater Foundation Executive Director.
Joining Mater from Children’s Hospital Foundation, Andrew brings with him extensive experience in fundraising and philanthropic leadership having served in a number of significant non-profit organisations in Queensland including Endeavour Foundation and Surf Life Saving Foundation.
Andrew also brings to Mater Foundation experience forged through the development of Perpetual Trustees’ expansive portfolio of work in funds management in the philanthropic sector.
In addition to Andrew’s deep understanding of organisations across a diverse range of specialties, he has experience in Board and executive level stakeholder relationships, large-scale lottery operations; and understands the importance of connecting with community to drive an organisation’s relevance and impact.
Drawn to Mater though its impact on so many people’s lives, Andrew said Mater was an iconic organisation.
“Mater Foundation is an outstanding organisation, which many people have grown up with, particularly through Mater Prize Homes; a brand synonymous with providing a simple way of giving to make a difference,” Andrew said.
“It is really an exciting time to be joining Mater, given the consolidation that is occurring across the Mater entities in Queensland. In 2020 we are living out the importance of healthcare and investing into research. As we have seen through the COVID-19 pandemic, communities are responding enthusiastically with support and admiration for frontline health workers.
In his first few months, Andrew said he is looking forward to meeting donors and supporters.
“I will be prioritising meeting with our very generous supporters and working on understanding the business of the wider Mater, while ensuring Mater Foundation’s strategic direction is focused on the biggest opportunities in the medium and long term.”
Chair of Mater Foundation Board Phil Hennessy extended Andrew a warm welcome.
“I am confident Andrew will continue to steer the organisation on its path in linking community and philanthropic support to Mater which ensures Mater continues to fulfil its Mission providing compassionate care to those who need it most,” Phil said.
